CASABLANCA (1942)
Winner of three Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best
Director, and Best Writing - Screenplay)
A timeless classic that’s still regarded as one of the most
romantic love stories of all time, Michael Curtiz’s unforgettable portrait of a
cynical American bar owner and the French ex-lover who broke his heart remains
as sweepingly magnificent as ever.
THE DEER HUNTER (1978)
Winner of five Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best
Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Sound, and Best Film Editing)
Starring Academy Award winners Robert de Niro, Christopher
Walken, and Meryl Streep, experience the brutality of war and the depths of
emotional strain on the human spirit in this extraordinarily powerful drama
that follows a group of Pennsylvania steelworkers from their blue-collar lives
to the depths of hell in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.
GONE WITH THE WIND (1939)
Winner of eight Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best
Director, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role,
Best Film Editing, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography - Colour, Best
Writing - Screenplay)
A staggering piece of cinema that would broaden the very
idea of what a film could be and do and look like, Victor Fleming’s period war
epic was moviemaking at its very height. A monumental production that can still
enthral new generations of viewers, it remains one of Hollywood’s greatest
achievements.
THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991)
Winner of five Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best
Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, and
Best Writing - Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published)
One of only three films to win the Academy’s “Big Five”
prizes, Jonathan Demme’s iconic psychological horror broke all preconceived
notions of what constituted a Best Picture winner. Oscar winners Anthony
Hopkins and Jodie Foster deliver legendary performances in this chilling yet
eloquent master thriller.
